The reason of bleached jute fiber turns yellow

Why do old books or newspapers turn yellow? Why is jute so difficult to bleach?
There is a common reason for both.
The raw materials for pulp come from wood or other types of plants, which contain a lot of cellulose and lignin. Due to the need to control production costs or the backward technology level, lignin is not removed, so white paper contains a lot of lignin and lignin oxidation products. These substances further decompose over time and produce colored molecule. Let yellow or brown spots gradually appear on white paper.
Jute also contains a lot of lignin, which explains why jute is rougher and harder than linen or cotton. Similar to the situation faced by papermaking, a large amount of lignin oxidation products remain on the surface of jute fibers after bleaching. After a few months, these components will gradually turn yellow, causing the bleached fibers to change from pure white to light yellow. It is foreseeable that this situation will be disastrous in the textile dyeing process. No one will like fabrics that look like old newspapers.
Can the complete removal of lignin prevent the gradual yellowing of paper or fibers? The answer is yes. Sufficient alkali treatment can completely decompose the lignin in wood blocks or natural fibers, thereby obtaining high-quality pulp. This is what papermake workers do every day. Thanks to their efforts, we can now use cheap and high-quality white paper.
We don't care that the raw material of the A4 paper in front of us comes from wood blocks, scutched long fibers or fiber residues. But spinning mills care about the material for yarn. Compared with papermaking, the textile industry has higher requirements for the pretreatment of natural fibers, removing lignin without damaging the fiber structure. Sufficient alkali treatment will completely destroy the fiber strength and turn high-quality fiber raw materials into a pile of dust. White and soft cellulose debris may be suitable for papermaking, but it is definitely not suitable for wearing on your body.So if we want to use the jute fibre to spining the yarn and apply in the textile industry , we need to research and develop the gentle, effective and efficient treatment measure to remove the gumming of jute fibre.
